Bonjour

The French Flour is the culmination of years of daydreams, decades of whisking in the kitchen under the doting eyes of my mother and grandmothers, and my wanderlust heart which has brought me around the world.

Growing up I loved being in the kitchen. I have distinct memories of standing on a chair in my grandmother’s kitchen sifting flour in a tin sifter, buttering lefse at Christmas with the other ladies in my family, and making homemade sugar cookies with my mom for every imaginable holiday! My love language of baking is a long family-rich tradition handed down from generation to generation in my Scandinavian family, and has brought joy and brightness into my life.

The past few years have brought so much realization that life is precious and ultimately too short to live in fear. The day after our sweet son Miles turned one, we discovered he had cancer and needed immediate surgery. Our lives turned upside down in an instant. While sitting in the hospital one sleepless night, my husband and I were dreaming of our family’s future and I knew I wanted to start living out my dreams. If Miles could be brave, so could I. A few weeks later, after being declared cancer-free, The French Flour was born.

I am a wife, mother to our Mighty Miles, a believer, a baker, writer and travel enthusiast. I find joy in hearing our little guy laugh, the windchime on our back deck, cool evenings sitting by the fire in a sweatshirt, a beautiful bouquet of peonies, and a nice ice cold Diet Coke.

Your life is precious and sweet, and it’s never too late to embark on a journey that brings you joy.
